The Family Leadership Regional Summit is a multi-speaker policy/issues event, similar to TFL’s annual Family Leadership Summit held in Ames each year. The evening event (tentative start time at 6:30 PM) will feature state and national conservative leaders with the end goal of educating Iowans about the issues that impact their families.

Pleasant, Iowa.

Founded in 1842, Iowa Wesleyan College is one of the oldest four-year coeducation, church-related liberal arts colleges west of the Mississippi River.  IWC has a rich history of innovation in education, pioneering in the sciences, and educational opportunities for women and service-learning.  From IWC emerged the nation’s first female attorney and the first female commander of the International Space Station.  Iowa Wesleyan is also a 2013 – 2014 College of Distinction.

harlan2008Mt. Pleasant Attraction: Harlan-Lincoln house
Special tours of the Harlan-Lincoln house will be available for event attendees from 4-6 pm. The Harlan-Lincoln House is on the campus of Iowa Wesleyan College and was built in 1876 by U.S. Senator James Harlan. Harlan’s daughter, Mary, married Robert Todd Lincoln, son of President Abraham Lincoln. The Lincolns brought their three children to spend summers here in the late 1870’s and 1880’s.

The Harlan-Lincoln House, located a half block from The Chapel, has been maintained as a museum since 1959. The museum includes artifacts belonging to the Harlan and Lincoln families including a fragment of the coat Abraham Lincoln was wearing when he was assassinated. The Family Leadership Regional Summit will be a ticketed event and tickets are complimentary.
