What are they afraid of?

What are they afraid of?

PresserMedia2-300x224In a strange move, the Iowa Democrat Party (IDP) held a press conference on Wednesday morning, calling on the Republican candidates for U.S. Senate to boycott The FAMiLY LEADER’s U.S. Senate Family Forum.

What?

Maybe I’m missing something here.  Why would the Democrats think that Republican candidates would listen to them?

The Iowa Democrat Party posted on their website:

“Erick Erickson’s views take us back to the time when intolerance dominated the conversation.  Iowans want to go forward, not backward, and the GOP Senate candidates should do the right thing and refuse to attend Friday’s forum.”

(By the way, there has been absolutely no consideration by any candidates to pull out of the forum.)

After hearing about the press conference, several important questions came to mind that we would all do well to consider:

1. Why wouldn’t the Republican candidates want to attend a forum the Democrats are telling them to boycott?

The FAMiLY LEADER Family Forum is non-partisan — Democrat Bruce Brailey was invited, but has not responded to our invitation.  But a general rule of competition still stands – if your opposition tells you to not do something…you should highly consider doing it.

2. What are they afraid of?

Why is Brailey afraid to attend?  Why are the Democrats afraid of the forum?  Are they afraid we are going to talk about Obamacare’s failures?

3. Why are they talking about social issues?

Liberal media have been telling Republicans for years, “stay away from social issues” over and over, ad nauseam.  But yet, here the Democrats are, talking about abortion and marriage!

4. Why are they trying to stifle everyone’s voice but their own?

As evidenced in an article entitled, “Purge the Bigots” written by William Saletan and published by Slate, freedom of speech is unacceptable to these people.  They want to punish and destroy anyone who dares disagree with them.  Because their ideas cannot ultimately stand on their own, they must use force to demand compliance.  Did you catch the duplicity in the quote from the IDP’s press release?  Here it is again:

“Erick Erickson’s views take us back to the time when intolerance dominated the conversation.  Iowans want to go forward, not backward, and the GOP Senate candidates should do the right thing and refuse to attend Friday’s forum.”

Translation: “We are intolerant of any view but our narrow definition of ‘intolerance’.”  Wow, so much for tolerance!

We have become a great nation particularly because we allowed for differences of opinion.  That doesn’t mean we have to agree.  But it does mean we ought to conduct ourselves in a respectful way toward those we disagree.  TFL has never threatened to purge anyone with whom we disagree, or called on candidates to boycott anyone’s forum.

In response, TFL issued this statement yesterday afternoon:

Urbandale, IA – This morning, the Iowa Democrat Party held a press conference calling on the Republican candidates for U.S. Senate to boycott The FAMiLY LEADER’s U.S. Senate Family Forum, to be held this Friday, April 25 at Faith Baptist Bible College at 6:30 p.m.

The FAMiLY LEADER’s President and CEO, Bob Vander Plaats responded, “The real news of today’s Democrat Party of Iowa’s news conference is the revelation of their ‘true’ colors. Their ‘true’ colors are that if you disagree with their embrace of homosexuality and homosexual marriage, their promotion of terminating a child’s life, their belief that ‘their’ government trumps the ‘Laws of Nature and Nature’s God’ and their socialist medicine (called Obamacare) mandate then you shouldn’t be heard.  In their view, tolerance is a one-way street and everyone who does not march in lock-step with their leftist agenda will be punished and purged through press conferences, protest rallies, hate mail, death threats, boycotts and any and all other forms of bullying.”

Vander Plaats continued, “The FAMiLY LEADER vigorously rejects these bullying tactics. Instead, we encourage thoughtful and respectful dialogue. We unite not around selfish interests nor ambition but, instead, around the ‘Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God.’ And, we always purpose to speak God’s truth in love embodied by a DNA of forgiveness. That being said, we welcome all to our U.S. Senate Family Forum. The candidates and their vision for their leadership in the U.S. Senate should be the news not petty political parties attempting to make noise for hollow gain and intentional division.”

Don’t be afraid!  Only truth will be discussed at TFL’s U.S. Senate Family Forum.  Register today!
