The Church Ambassador Network ministry paradigm is designed around six core principles that guide our approach to inspiring the church to engage government for the advancement of God’s kingdom. As ambassadors for Christ, we all have an obligation to live out our testimony for the watching world in every season, and as our nation prepares for another election, our Texas team has been walking with local pastors as they prepare to help their congregations to honor God with their vote.
Equipping Pastors to Choose Well
As the November election approaches, CAN Texas is once again offering the Choose Well Toolkit. In the same way that we walk with pastors as they navigate the Texas Capitol from a Kingdom perspective, the Choose Well Toolkit offers practical resources for approaching elections and civic engagement from a biblical perspective.
Second Timothy 2:24–26 reminds believers to engage others with gentleness, patience, and humility. The goal is not simply to win an argument, but to faithfully represent Christ and trust God to work in hearts and minds.
Pastors, church leaders, and ministry partners are encouraged to download the Choose Well Toolkit and share it with other churches and leaders in their communities. Together, these resources can help equip the Church to approach this election with grace and confidence.
Kingdom Relationships Growing in San Antonio
Executive Director Bryan English recently joined South Texas Senior Director Nino Gonzalez for a day of ministry collaboration in San Antonio. Their schedule included a Pastors’ Breakfast at Oak Hills Church with LifeWise Academy, followed by meetings with Chyna Fernandez of Belong and John Wilhelm of 1Hope for Kids. Both of those meetings were focused on ways the Church can impact child welfare in Texas through ministries for children and families. The day also included a visit to the new Agora Ministries campus in South San Antonio.
CAN Texas also hosted its fifth DFPS Appreciation Event at the agency’s second-largest San Antonio field office. Seven local churches encouraged and prayed with 50 social workers–fully half of the 100 staffers who work in that building! Together, these efforts demonstrate growing collaboration between local churches, ministries, and those serving Texas families.
Bringing Scripture into the Heart of Government
For over a year now, at the request of Ag Commissioner Sid Miller, the Church Ambassador Network has been facilitating a Bible study for staffers who work in the department. On September 16, CAN Texas Senior Director Doug James, Pastor Corby Richardson of Friendship Creekside Church, and Lanay Fournier, Director of Strategic Partnerships for The Daniel Impact, attended the bi-monthly Bible study over the lunch hour at the Texas Agriculture Commission office in downtown Austin. God’s hand of favor was evident as the room was full for Pastor Corby’s devotional from the Gospel of John and the conversation that followed.
The growing Bible study is another example of pastors and ministry leaders building consistent relationships and bringing biblical encouragement directly to those serving in government.
Joining in Prayer for the Nation
During the week of September 15, National Day of Prayer Task Force coordinators from across the country gathered in Macon, Georgia, for their annual Leadership Summit.
In addition to serving as the CAN Texas Senior Director for Central Texas, he serves as the President of the Central Texas National Day of Prayer Task Force. In that role, he leads the annual Texas Governor’s Prayer Breakfast and National Day of Prayer activities in and around Austin. Doug joined fellow prayer leaders from around the country for prayer, encouragement, equipping, and planning as they prepare to mobilize unified public prayer across America again around the National Day of Prayer next May.
Looking Ahead
Across Texas, CAN Texas continues to see doors open as pastors, churches, ministry partners, and public servants build authentic relationships centered on service and the Gospel.
Whether walking with pastors during election season, encouraging social workers, bringing Scripture into government offices, or strengthening partnerships across the state, the mission remains the same: inspiring the Church to engage government for the advancement of God’s Kingdom.
