The 2026 Iowa legislative session concluded in early May with 10 significant policy wins. Among them were age verification for pornographic websites, a law protecting against black-market abortion drugs, and a school choice omnibus bill.
These victories did not happen by accident. They came through prayer, advocacy, policy work, legislative leadership, and the faithful engagement of Iowans who believe families, children, and biblical values are worth defending.
Governor Reynolds Signs Key Priorities Into Law
Governor Kim Reynolds has been busy signing several of these bills into law, and The FAMiLY Leader has had the privilege of joining her for multiple bill-signing ceremonies.
As these legislative priorities become law, we are thankful for Governor Reynolds’ nine years of leadership and her role in advancing policies that protect life, defend families, and expand educational freedom in Iowa.
But this is also her final term as governor. Next year, someone new will sit behind the governor’s desk.
That means the 2026 governor’s race is not just another election. It is a defining moment for Iowa’s future.
Why The FAMiLY Leader Endorsed Adam Steen
The FAMiLY Leader endorsed Adam Steen for governor because we believe he is a man of strong faith, a proven leader, and a candidate capable of winning in November.
To support his campaign, The FAMiLY Leader engaged voters through connected TV ads, a tele-town hall, text messaging, and other election-related efforts.
At the same time, The FAMiLY Leader worked to educate voters on where gubernatorial candidates stood on school choice. With the future of education savings accounts on the line, Iowa families deserved to know which candidates would protect and strengthen parental choice in education.
Iowa’s Governor Race Moves Into the Next Chapter
Yesterday, primary voters made their decision. Democrats nominated Rob Sand for governor, while Republicans nominated Zach Lahn with 38% of the vote.
Bob had the chance to interview and shoot hoops with Zach Lahn last winter. Check out what Zach had to say HERE.
We’ll have much more to say about the governor race in the coming months. For now, we’ll leave it at this: These two candidates have different sets of values and different visions for Iowa’s future. Please join us in prayer for God’s continued hand of favor on this state.
