Iowa’s exemplary Gov. Kim Reynolds announced that she will not be seeking reelection in 2026, leaving Iowa Republicans with a tough task ahead.

BIG IDEA: Leadership is a higher calling than politics.

My top 3 takeaways this week, as we navigate the news:

1. REYNOLDS’ ANNOUNCEMENT CAME AS A SHOCK

Iowa’s governor led the nation in defending unborn life, implementing school choice, protecting girls’ sports, championing religious liberty, and more. She should be celebrated as the kind of leader we need.

2. DON’T TAKE FOR GRANTED A REPUBLICAN SUCCESSOR

State politics can shift quickly – as seen in Wisconsin’s Supreme Court race and many mid-term elections. Even though Reynolds led her state toward turning red, a strong Democrat challenger is already gearing up.

3. WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN THE NEXT GOVERNOR

Christians should not merely look for a Republican to replace Reynolds, but the right person. A strong leader will be needed: Capable, courageous, and most of all … called to lead for such a time as this.

EXTRA: WHAT ABOUT BOB?

Would Bob Vander Plaats run for governor? Right now, the answer is no. But Bob says he’ll wait ’til fall to make a final call.
