Iowa Governor’s Race Pastors’ Tool Kit
God’s Design
For Government
This resource examines God’s design for government as revealed in Scripture and explores how these principles apply to our system of government in the United States today.
The Calling Of A
Shepherd in Government
This resource explores shepherd leadership and offers insight for discerning the character and qualities of those serving in God’s institutions of government.
Shepherd to Shepherd Ministry
For 13 years, we met quarterly with Kim Reynolds, first as Lieutenant Governor and then as Governor. By the time she leaves office in January 2027, we will have met with her more than 40 times. We started every meeting in the Word, discussed ways we could partner to serve Iowans, and ended in prayer.
As we say goodbye to our friend, we prepare to minister to a new governor and meet the needs of a new administration.
To help us understand what ministry could look like with either Governor Lahn or Governor Sand, we asked each candidate to record a video FOR PASTORS, sharing in his own words how he views faith and how it would impact his administration.
These videos were created specifically for pastors and are not for mass consumption. PLEASE DO NOT DISTRIBUTE.
The candidates were not scripted or given the questions ahead of time. These are their own words.
Together We Built a Culture of Life
The past nine years have demonstrated how much the Office of the Governor can influence the culture of life in Iowa. During that time, Iowa reformed its judicial nominating process, saw a state Supreme Court precedent recognizing a constitutional right to abortion overturned, restricted most abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected, redirected certain public funding away from abortion providers, and launched the MOMS program to support pregnant women and families.
As Christians discern who should lead Iowa next, we must consider how each candidate views human life and how those convictions would shape the way he uses the Office of the Governor.
Together We Reformed Education
The Office of the Governor has played a significant role in reshaping education in Iowa. Iowa has expanded school choice through the ESA program, strengthened parental rights, and enacted policies affecting what may be taught in public schools, including policies addressing sexuality and gender.
As Christians discern who should hold this office, we must consider each candidate’s view of parents, children, education, and the proper role of government in serving Iowa families.
Seeking the Welfare of Iowa
Through the Office of the Governor, we have built Church-State Partnerships with multiple departments, connecting state leaders and local state employees with churches and ministries. We have hosted more than 30 Church-State Partnership Tours, held state employee appreciation events, launched MINISTRY LiNK, and built infrastructure that will allow the Church to partner with the state for years to come.
It is our desire to pray for favor from kings that leads to Church-State Partnerships that strengthen the Church, break bondage in our communities, and bring glory to the name of Christ.
Choosing government leaders with a heart to serve is one way we can continue seeking the welfare of our communities. These resources are designed to help the Body of Christ see voting as a way to serve and love our neighbors.
