“If” is a small word, but in Scripture, it carries eternal weight.
In 2 Chronicles 7:14, God says, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways…” That word, if, reminds us that the future of families, communities, states, and nations is not shaped by politics alone. It is shaped by whether God’s people will humble themselves and pray.
Across Texas, we are seeing that call answered in powerful ways. This past month, pastors, ministry leaders, public officials, business leaders, and believers gathered in prayer from Houston to Austin, standing together in humility, dependence, and hope.
More Than 800 Gather for the Greater Houston Prayer Breakfast
On April 29, more than 800 Houstonians gathered for the Greater Houston Prayer Breakfast, a powerful reminder that many across Texas are hungry for unity, prayer, and faithful leadership.
The Church Ambassador Network of Texas helped bring pastors and public leaders together, creating space for real relationship-building and encouragement. CAN Texas Executive Director Bryan English served on the planning committee, and the team hosted several tables where pastors welcomed members of the Texas Legislature.
One of the most memorable moments came through the testimony of Arthur Medina, a local business owner whose story displays the transforming power of Jesus Christ. Once convicted of capital murder at age 17, Medina shared how God radically changed his life after a question from retired criminal investigator A.P. Merillat led him to seek Christ. His testimony was a living reminder that no life is beyond the reach of redemption.
Honoring Faithful Leadership at the Texas Governor’s Prayer Breakfast
On May 4, the Texas Governor’s Prayer Breakfast marked both a celebration and a leadership transition.
Jim McGee and his wife, Vicki, were honored for more than three decades of faithful service in helping shape both the Governor’s Prayer Breakfast and National Day of Prayer efforts in Central Texas. Their legacy is one of perseverance, prayer, and quiet faithfulness that has strengthened the region for years.
The event also marked a new chapter as Doug James, Senior Director for Central Texas with the Church Ambassador Network, stepped into expanded leadership. He now serves as President of the National Day of Prayer in Central Texas and Chairman of the Governor’s Prayer Breakfast.
This year, CAN Texas hosted pastors alongside several key public officials, including Education Commissioner Mike Morath, Department of Family and Protective Services Commissioner Audrey O’Neil, and State Representative Brad Buckley. Jim Daly, President of Focus on the Family, delivered the keynote and challenged attendees to pursue a vibrant, consistent prayer life.
Prayer Fills the Texas Capitol Rotunda
On May 7, the Texas State Capitol Rotunda became a place of worship and intercession as pastors, ministry leaders, and public officials gathered for the annual National Day of Prayer.
The Church Ambassador Network of Texas helped organize and lead the event, with special thanks to Ed LaBelle for coordinating and Senator Bob Hall for serving as the legislative sponsor.
During the gathering, leaders prayed over key areas of influence, including government, the military and first responders, business, media, education, the family, and the Church. Across the state, local churches and communities also hosted National Day of Prayer gatherings, uniting believers in a shared posture of humility and dependence on God.
Why These Gatherings Matter
These moments are not merely ceremonial. They are a sign of what can happen when pastors and governing officials come together in humility, prayer, and relationship.
When leaders seek God together, hearts are softened. Trust is built. Communities are strengthened. And the Church is reminded of its calling to be salt and light in every sphere of life.
What we are witnessing across Texas is not coincidence. It is the fruit of faithful leaders responding to God’s call.
May we continue to pray, seek God’s face, and ask Him to heal our land.
